Description

Well this is a learning experience isn't it? Here is a first shot at a full disk mosaic. All said, 42 panels and 225 megapixels later, here is a version that is reduced to 56.25mp. Processing this monster was not kind to my machine and I learned that I did a lot of steps backwards which may have hurt the final output. Also, I need to pay more attention to focus shift, framing gaps, and moments of bad seeing. All these conspired against frames here and there (and that leaves out a collimation or tilt problem I seem to have with the DSLR mounting).

This was all stitched together from 30s 5x Live View recordings on the DSLR, 42 frames in all. It took about 40 minutes total to run through the sequence. Next one should go better, and I'll be doing this with the ASI120MM once I have a better focusing and backspacing solution for that cam.

I processed it with added contrast to pull out some of the larger scale structure and colors on the surface. I like it, but at the same time I'm sure I can do better.

Rev A - Original high-contrast version

Rev B - Registax wavelet sharpened and less contrast.

I'm not sure which version I prefer, but B preserves more detail.
